Category theory is special among math subjects in that (1) it's wholly abstract (2) it shares little common language/notation with other fields and (3) what few applications it does have, require a postgraduate-level understanding of topology and algebra. The people who willingly dub themselves "Category Theorist" rarely have the required background for these applications: they're after some kind of occult knowledge about the nature of the universe, or something. Obviously people like that are weird.
