Hey /sci/, so right now I'm just getting done finishing my high school degree and will be attending college next year. I am thinking I want to be a Chem major (and eventually pursue a PhD) but I am a little unsure.

I want to study a lot of things is the problem. I love chemistry but I also love physics, philosophy, mathematics, etc. And I know in a lot of ways those things are interrelated but I don't want to just end up doing bitch work in a lab or something.

I want to dive into the real challenges that science is looking at now concerning the nature of our reality, and really make a difference in some way. I know that probably sounds terribly idealist but I desire it a lot.

Am I headed in the right direction at least; is there perhaps a branch of science that has what I am looking for?

Here's Carl Sagan for your trouble

[ERROR]

If I were the creator of this universe, mister Sagan, I would create a special heaven for people like you, who work to promote public knowledge and scientific passion.

And, in keeping with your philosophies, I would maintain a strict policy of non-intervention with sapient species and their planets; the whole of science would be theirs to explore, free of the stain of miracles and hocus-pocus.

The cosmos is full beyond measure.

The brain does more than recollect. It intercompares and synthesizes and analyzes. It generates abstractions.

The brain has its own language for testing the structure and consistency of the world.

Hey screw you buddy.

Sagan lives in both our hearts and memories, well as the cosmos itself.
