Not purely science related, but I figure the demographic to be more fitting than any other board - insofar as serious, thought-out responses go. I get it, it's not really /sci/, but just give me a chance.

What would you say would be the best and most original way to explain how a superhero received their powers? I'm tired of the radiation/alien heritage/chemical accident explanations. Is there any other way to give a character enhanced abilities, couching them in a scientific explanation, that doesn't rely on the conventional handwavings?

Hey sci/

Maths fag here. Second year at university in UK.

I'm depressed with Maths it's too fucking easy and the stuff I do I consider pointless. Like solving a PDEs or Analysis.

Just seems like non sense to me. Also, I've always wanted to do Physics, but was a dumb fag four years ago.

Basically, I'm thinking of changing to Mathematical Physics. However, this might cause a lot of problems. Firstly, my Physics sucks compared to my Maths. Secondly, might need to repeat the second year again.

But, it's like Physics seems to be the way. Like everything is pointing towards it. Even in Riemann Hypothesis, which I want to prove will likely to be solved using QM. So can't ignore it.

But, I don't know. Like without doing any Physics like GR I would never be able to get onto a Mathematical Physics PhD.

But, I suck badly compared to Physics. I'm only really good at Pure stuff like abstract algebra and logic.

Can't stand anything stupid.

TV is too stupid and so avoid it. The noise of a TV grinds me up. Fitness is out of the question as even if I where fit/ most girls are morons.

Only have three friends. Never going to get a girlfriend as all girls are stupid and shallow(not saying boys are better). Everything is boring.

Only find science fun.

MFW I'm becoming Sheldon out of The Big Bang Theory.

But, I can't stand stupidity. Like if someone said they where doing a arts degree I would call them a monkey. Elitist as fuck.

You are all overlooking the most obviously overrated scientist ever.

What kind of dumb bitch gets radiation poisoning from making a sandwich?

TL:DR - Post some non-obvious hazardous materials or effects.

Sup /sci/?

/tg/ here. One of our quest threads this past weekend nearly blew up in our face and now we're perched precariously, having aroused the ire of the high nobility. We're on their shit list.

We've been assigned by the DM to think of ways to subtly bring them down. One idea I'd like to explore is introducing hazardous materials to ther living environments. But, it'd be best if it was difficult to trace the resulting illness to the source.

Examples:
Asbestos - Not obvious due to how slowly it works, has tangible utility to legitimize distribution/presence. No significant refinement required. Good candidate.
Bisphenol A - Not obvious due to how slowly it works, has tangible utility to legitimize distribution/presence. Requires specific refinement to be sure is present. Weak candidate.
The Sodium Shower Cap - Head blows up. Bad candidate.

I'd try googling it all, but I'm not sure what to use for search terms.
