Australia has only ~21 million people, Tasmania is a landmass half the size of Germany with a similar terrain in many places and only has about 500,000 people, concentrated in Hobart, Launceston, and the other northern Tasmanian towns. The temperature ranges between -5'C in winter and 38'C in the summer. I am fucking amazed British settlers didn't take Tasmania immediately and populate it with their own folk.

No, it's most likely going to be situated in southwest Tasmania. Beautiful country with the resources we require. Nearby streams and a river, nice hilly terrain, and practically Europe with gum trees.
