Hello Science and Math board of 4chan, I came here today to ask of assistance on a merely uncomplicated equation consisting of absolute value. Any aid of any sort is appreciated. I am not asking for the answer but a simple walk through on how you came up with the answer. This would be absolutely valued upon me. (Came up with that one myself just now!) Thank you for your time and I hope that you will contribute in the name of Mathematics.

Here is the equation...

|x - 1| = -3x - 4

As I said it doesn't require a Ph.D to come up with an answer but I have been struggling with this particular equation for a while now.

Oh yes; the AP biology test is so fucking stupid. I made a 5 on it and thought "there's no way intro bio course are THAT easy", so I took them anyway. While I was still disappointed, they were at least harder than that AP test. After a few years of retrospection, I still stick by my decision to no CLEP out of the class.

When doing phylogenetic analysis, how sure are we that we have everything "aligned" correctly? In other words, are we matching the right genes in one organism to the right genes in another organism (and so forth when looking at relatedness) 100% of the time, or are there occasionally errors (yes)? Are we getting better at it? What percentage of tolweb.org may have to be reassessed if it is necessary?
