As I said originally, yeah sure fine makes sense for things prior to the development of their function "as neurons" and prior to incorporation together with other organisms to form something like eumetazoa. Can anyone actually define depression first? It looks to me like any negative symptom can be called a symptom of depression. You're sad all the time? Depression. You have no confidence in yourself? Depression. You have no energy? Depression. You retreat socially? Depression. You can't focus? Depression.
