Is it possible to design a (relatively) safe self-contained "antimatter battery"? Assuming we can produce antimatter in large quantities.

For a single electron to account for all electrons in the universe, it needs to travel backwards through the universe exactly as many times as it travels forwards, so there should be exactly as many positrons as there are electrons, which there are not.

Also, there is the problem of particle creation, and for that matter, annihilation.

Also also, what is the mechanism that causes the election to travel forward in "time" and the positron backwards?

Is it possible to power an antimatter container with the energy of the antimatter contained in it? How long will it work on its own power?

How does an antimatter propulsion rocket work?

My idea is a chamber where antimatter is mixed with matter, some sort of gas. The energy produced heats whatever gas is used to extremely high temperatures and expands rapidly. The pressure is relieved by shooting the plasma out the thruster producing force.

Is this how most antimatter thrusters work or is there some other design? Are other designs more fuel effecient?

What are some things you've been taught in school science class that you later found out was complete bullshit?

I was taught that an element could not become a different element (This is how most man-made elements are created)
I was taught that matter cannot be created or destroyed (This is an important part of the theory of relativity)

If antimatter annihilates as soon as it comes into contact with matter, where does it.. exist? Are there small pockets of antimatter out in space scattered about in places? Are the "edges" of those pockets constantly violently exploding every time a stray electron or something whizzes by?

And if that's true, shouldn't we be running low on how much antimatter there even is by now, since there's matter all over the damn place waiting to destroy it?

ahoy guize
guize
wut if
wut if dark energy int reel
guize
and most distant galaxys guize
are anti matter
and cuz its anti matter guize
its gravity repels
guize
so all the gravity in the universe is retracing n repelling guyz
but theres moar anti matter than matter
so the universe be expandin
guize??

guize amirite

I have a question that seems simple enough to me but may be harder to answer than I can imagine.

Lets assume that anti-matter exerts anti-gravity. According to what I've been told recently, this seems to be the consensus on the matter.

How would anti-matter interact gravitationally with matter? (if one is only exerting antigravity, the other gravity)

I've read somewhere before that antiparticles have more mass than ordinary particles too.

Might this imbalance be the mysterious dark matter we refer to so much?

f(x) = x+x²+(e^x)

It's asking for (f-1)'(1)

hey /sci/

i'm writing a paper on antimatter in response to CERN recently capturing it for a brief time. specifically i will be discussing it's potential uses, energy, weapons, etc.

i want a couple of things from you:

what questions does the average person (perhaps you) have about anti-matter? do you know what it is, how it's formed, it's potential? this will help me to know what to discuss

and second, if there are any high-level physicsfags out there that want to give me any freebies, insights into the field or links to useful information, hit me.
