Our generation of young Americans has been afflicted with the delusion of "Go to college, study hard, get a degree, and use that degree to get a job that uses what you studied."
There is a grave misunderstanding of the purpose of a university degree. Universities are not supposed to be job training programs. However, it has become a self-fulfilling prophecy because this view of university has led most young Americans to go to university when they shouldn't, inflating tuition cost to the point that no one would go to university for any reason besides job security.
Science degrees, such as chemistry and physics and biology, are more well-suited to invention and production, not "finding a job". You don't just go out and find a "physics job" or a "chemistry job".
There are very very few "chemistry jobs". Ideally the economy should have more production of goods. There's too much focus on "getting a job", you're expected to work at a corporation until you die. Whatever happened to being a blacksmith, a farmer, a woodworker, etc?
If you can't use your chemistry knowledge from your B.S. in chemistry to produce goods, you're working at Taco Bell until you save enough money to start producing goods and hopefully quit working at Taco Bell.

Every time some brown bratty pajeet pre-med college student complains about "ochem", calls "orgo" a GPA killer, asks the professor "wats gonna be on da exam", asks for "study tips", etc, a lawnmower runs over a cute bunny.

As a chemistry major who does organic chemistry at home as a hobby, I want to slap them. the fact that they make up 99% of my chemistry classes, up until senior year, is why I can't make friends at college.

chemistry major here

does anyone else hate pre-meds for ruining the vibe of chemistry and chemistry classes?

pre-meds manage to take an amazing field that teaches you how reality functions, gives you a better understanding of the world, and turn it into a perceived boring stupid GPA killer that sucks because you have to "cram for the exam ermageeerrrd" and "ughhhh memorize glycolysis for the MCAT" instead of playing smash bros.

it feels like i'm the only one who wants to be there and is marvelling at what i'm learning, while everyone else is being "studious" and "using discipline to buckle down and study this shit so they can be successful" and my mindset is so dfiferent from them that i'm very lonely and can't make friends with my classmates.

pre-meds are annoying because they retain that gross high school mentality for all of university. this mentality of "ugh gotta study and cram hard for the exam" and not understanding the beauty of what they're learning, at all. viewing professors as their enemies instead of preachers of beautiful information.

i mean, if i do a reddit search for "glycolysis", instead of seeing people ask interesting questions about glycolysis out of curiosity, it's full of premeds complaining about the MCAT, complaining about "biochem ughhh". they have their stupid "study tips" instead of just being interested in the material itself.

you know why being a chemistry major sucks? it's really lonely to be surrounded by all this annoying stuck-up asian indian basic pre-meds. yes i said it, they're all snooty stuck up brown kids who only go to class to make mommy and daddy proud.

As a non-premed chemistry major, here is a list of reasons I hate pre-meds:

Making chemistry professors dead inside

Having no idea what they are doing in organic lab

constantly saying "OCHEM URGHHHHH I HATE ORGO UGHHHHHH"

taking all the research spots and not appreciating them as much as a chem major would

acting really fake when asking professors for research. We can all tell you just want to impress medical school admissions and you actually hate chemistry.

skipping class every day, then wondering why they got a 70% on an exam

they just want to get rich and make mom and dad proud and honor the family, they dont really like school, they are only here for a piece of paper and get confused when a kid actually likes chemistry

constantly asking what will be on the exam

i'm in organic lab II and my lab partner annoys the shit out of me. I write 5 page prelabs and make 99s on all of them, while he brings a half assed 1 page. He has no idea what to do in lab. He fucked up this week's lab by throwing away our final product without asking me first, and we weren't able to get a melting point because of that. He's a faggot asian premed, yuck
