Not sure if this solar filament is animated, but for some reason i saved it with gif in the name twice, so it's worth a shot.

The camera wasn't sensitive enough and wasn't allowed a long enough exposure to resolve lights from the dark side of the Earth. Had they tried to take pictures of city lights, sunlight reflected off the day side of the earth would have destroyed the camera.
