Mars is much harder to land on due to its picky atmosphere.
One major difficulty landing on the Moon is the lack of stable orbits around it due to it's somewhat ununiform (is that a word?) grav field, but we've worked out by now where the stable ones are so that's not really an excuse anymore

Fuck loads of satellites are crashed on the Moon because of concentrations of mass (Mascons) making the gravity around the Moon non uniform. There are only four allowed values for a satellites inclination around the Moon that doesn't lead to decay and crashes
