Why does the edge of visible universe imply that time started at the big bang? Couldn't this be explained by an absence of light before the big bang, rather than time?

i'm taking an AI and object oriented programming course remotely this semester (working from home)
this is my graduating semester

i also need to fix up two Fs from a few semesters ago, one from a SQL databases class (final project basically exploded at the last minute, no credit) and one for a software engineering elective

i have 17 days before i need to turn in all my work
