Do you agree with Neil deGrasse Tyson? Does STEM education really make people better problem solvers and innovators in general?

I don't see why you can't be an innovative problem solver without knowing calculus.

Calling it now, better than the original.

And has Niel deGrasse Tyson actually managed to make science sexy finally?

So who is the current smarts person in the world?

My vote goes for pic related, Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson. Is anybody else excited as hell about the new Cosmos reboot? Tyson is gonna own it!

What do you guys think of popular scientists such as Neil Degrasse Tyson or Bill Nye etc.

I just went to a talk by Dr. Tyson and I was impressed with the fluidity and passion in the discussion.

While on the subject what kind of future do you see for science and the scientific community?

Let me get something straight. A lot of /sci/ seems to hate pop-scientists. I get that. I understand your reasoning, but it's bullshit.
Okay, so let's say that Neil Tyson gives a clear, albeit dumbed down, explanation of black holes or the internal fission of stars or some shit. That gets people interested in science, right? Even they don't understand it, who's to say that they won't take it a step further? Science would die without public interest.
Say that pop-scientists stopped giving dumbed down allegories and taught the real science. No one would be interested. The first time I took a serious science class was a two block AP class my junior year. It was fucking terrifying. It was the absolute hardest thing I had done intellectually up to that point by a long shot. I'm not saying it's not doable, because clearly it is, I'm saying that without a basis to show that it is worth the effort people will not care or be interested in science.

What would be heavier.

A universe with two relatively equal and stationary particles 10M apart.

or A universe with two relatively equal and stationary particles 1LY apart.

Which universe would have more energy, or would they have the same energy?

For this thought exercise assume gravity propagates at C.

33% of people feel Niel deGrasse Tyson is the smartest man alive.
http://www.debate.org/opinions/is-neil-degrasse-tyson-the-smartest-man-alive

>Yes, I believe Neil deGrasse Tyson is the smartest man alive. His educational background alone is impressive. Some of his degrees include: BA in physics from Harvard and a PhD in astrophysics from Columbia University. He truly is a leader in astrophysical sciences, which shows his intelligence. He has written books, hosted a radio talk show and done research. Impressive!

So do you agree, or disagree?
*Note, 33% of people get this question wrong

Please liberals, unchain your pet coon. Yes, he is a brilliant scientist and his achievements shouldn't go unremarked. But let us be honest, in the totality of things 1 persons action's are irrelevant if the whole is completely opposite.

Because we're all at least supposed to be of a scientific mindset and are generally utilitarian. Racism fails in both categories; even if there was evidence for a sufficient difference in racial intelligence from some biological origin (there isn't), you still have to support the proposition of treating them as slaves and inferiors as in any way a good idea. Instead, it just leads to barbarism, atrocity, and mass human suffering.

It's an unscientific and brutal attitude that is quite rightly ostracized.

< ---- This guy might also help.

Can you guys share some good long science videos, like Q and A's, Interviews, science presentations given by famous scientists. I've watched a bunch of Michio Kaku and Neil Degrasse Tyson videos and I thoroughly enjoy them. Or some good long lecture videos given by professors would be nice. Or even life stories.
Stuff like this:
