/sci/ has fallen far judging from these shitass bullshit responses.

let's start with: loneliness and isolation are not synonymous terms. loneliness is a mental state where you're distressed or upset due to a perceived lack of social connection. isolation is being alone. it's like if you said "what are the effects of longterm irritation/wetness?" one describes a mental state and the other describes the environment that you can find yourself in. some people might get irritated by that experience but it's not inherent.

this is very important to distinguish to truly understand loneliness, because your immediate statement of:
>Actual loneliness, not the "I feel alone in a crowded room" nonsense,
is nonsense because LONLINESS is a subjective experience.
>like going years without physically touching another human being
this is isolation or being alone, which describes how you are and not how you feel
>and interacting with no one except the occasional cashier.
and this is not true aloneness that you'd wanna see researched lol

but to summarize what we know about loneliness feelings of loneliness and feelings of lack of social connection are tied to worse health outcomes as severe as being on par with a pack a day smoker. which is severe, like years off your life type of mortality. it's also tied to worse health outcomes in general in terms of disease and wellness in that sort of staying healthy way.

As an ecologist this rings a lot of alarm bells but as someone who's also worked in mosquito control, their plan is specific to aedes aegypti which in my eyes validates their plan. They aren't planning on eliminating all mosquitoes, they're eliminating one of the worst vectors for various diseases. Aegypti is like the ground zero for most of the zoonotics in the US, and it's not really found in the north. It's the main vector for zika when that started.

The concept of "getting rid of all mosquitoes" is really common and I don't really support that but specifically targeting aegypti is something I can get behind because it's such a common vector for many diseases. You could easily eliminate a lot of deaths from just getting rid of this one species while also allowing the population of less competent vector species to just grow and take their place. Yes mosquitoes suck but it'd be better to target the disease rather than the animal itself.
