Well, keynesanism was really popular in like the 70ties, but, as it turns out, there were a lot of problems that derived from interventionist policies. You can trace a lot of them back to the complexity of the economy, which cannot be overlooked neither by politicians, nor by science (thus some people call economic sciences the astrology of our time kek).

Another reason is that politicians tend to be interested in votes, so they do alot of very short lasting stuff, that leads to them beeing reelected but, on the other hand, leads to the whole country going down the shitter sadly. They, for instance, lower the taxes in an economic crises, but frown to rise them in the following period of growth, because who votes for someone that wants to rob you?

Because of that, most coutries started to follow a more liberal path in the 80ies (England is good example, think of Thatcher) and it seems like it will backfire in a while
