Why do people think science is some sort of ideology? I refer in particular to the reddit-style vocal atheists. These people think that science is some political position you can take that is an alternative to the mainstream, or something. And what's funny is that these people are almost never literate at anything scientific at all, and have humanities degrees. I am an atheist, and I do math, and have atheist friends, but none of my scifag friends who are atheists make it their identities or "ideology" or bring it up or anything. Maybe because it's less mystical to us or something. And to the /r/atheism people who just like pop sci crap, there's some sort of reverence they have for it that makes it like religion. To us it's just a specific type of scrutiny of the mundane.

Anyone else notice this?

Assertion: People are brainwashed into believing nuclear will kill all your children and countrymen, and that oil and coal are good, because the oil and coal companies have the most powerful lobby on government and media

Well, I cant prove it as im a lazy faggot, but perhaps it's worth considering.
