I need to do a lot of self-motivated studying to learn about whether a project idea I've had is feasible or not, or partially so, and I don't currently have the intellectual stamina to make very rapid progress in the several areas of study I'd need to have some level of comfortable familiarity with.

After about 4-5 hrs study my focus begins to lag and even if I remain behind a book to 'study' my mind will begin to wander despite myself and I get very rapidly diminishing returns on my time investment.

Ideally I'd like to be able to study 10 hours a day but that simply seems currently infeasible.

So for those who work at this kind of level, how can I build the necessary intellectual stamina? Did you always study as much as you currently do or did you gradually build up to it?

I'll also say Perelman. I just like the way he doesn't care about anything he doesn't consider essentially important and I think his dedication is admirable if inimitable.

Who are some "geniuses" of our time? I occasionally see name drops on here, but i'm not familiar with those fields. I remember seeing a few people reference a guy who has a theory that only 3 people are qualified to even understand.

Well his ugliness aside where do we even start with one of these? Not like one is easier than the others

For you, OP, a programming job. Have fun being a code monkey.

For everyone else, 300k starting, any job they want.

How about some /sci/entists post the best introductions (and perhaps even popsci) in their field for the layman?

Fuck finance. Finance is silly. Also I hate money even though I also use money to please, feed, and clothe myself.

Anyway, be a real mathematician. Or just do what you want to do. I don't know. Why are you listening to me?
