So anons, with orbital construction hopefully kicking off within the next 10-20 years, what sorts of (semi)autonomous space drones would you envision helping at construction projects? Pic related is an observation drone from the gateway foundation. I'm thinking humans would handle the complex shit like assembling or installing medium/small-ish sized modules or something while these observer drones spot for tools flying away and provide vision for other drones moving larger pieces or modules, like a truss segment. There would also be grabber drones that retrieve loose/irregular shaped tools/debris, or for delivering tools/ parts to workers similar to those described in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJ6wwA9wXog
Drones for grabbing on to and maneuvering and position large segments would also be needed on an orbital construction project where robotic arms can't reach to effectively. Lastly, some sort of central drone port where they can refill their reaction propellant/recharge would be required. A company could churn out a ton of these small, standardized drones and operate them for orbital projects. What are your ideas for space drones? Neat idea for 4ASS?
