Just because a technology hasn't gone through a proper research and development stage doesn't mean it should be written off. And besides making U-238 into fissionable fuel, does it run at ambient pressure? Does it have no chance of having a traditional meltdown and scattering radioactive material everywhere? Does it need to be near large sources of water? Can the waste heat generate synthetic fuels and desalinate water effectively? How small are these? How much fuel do they use? What are some of the main problems putting back development into such reactors?
