I realize that this is a science and math board, but because there is no philosophy board, I am therefore forced to post here because you guys seem to be the most educated and rational.

Let's discuss the plausibility of a god. I am not talking about a personal god, or Allah, or Jesus, or Zeus, or any other specific god, but the logical possibility of a god (whether or not the god is omnipotent, omniscient, anthropomorphic, etc. does not matter).

For the record, I am an agnostic atheist.

This is just your daily reminder that this is everywhere in nature.

Last fucking year I told my family I didn't want anything for Christmas because it was a bullshit mental fantasy. But my fucking grandmother who's like 70 and is a typical Christian trying to convert me. She got me a gift card from best buy so I could get some games EVEN THOUGH I told everyone I didn't want anything. She tried to give it to me in a card with a bible verse it. A fucking bible verse.

I was so pissed, I told her in front of every one that if she wanted to believe in Jewish zombies and her cannibal cult she could but not to try to brainwash me. And I threw the card on the table. She started crying and my dad got pissed and grabbed me by the arm and told me to get my ass to my room and not come out until everyone else had left.

I take every possible opportunity to rationally break people from their religious shield of hypocrisy. If they get hostile I just ask why they so mad. Whenever me and my parents get into a discussion about religion I just blow their minds with truth and usually the conversation sidetracks somewhere so they can fell less crappy about having their shitty belief system turned upside-down.

Well they learned their lesson last year and they didn't get me anything. They didn't even ask me to come with them to my uncles this year so I got the house all to myself. Weed and my xbox is all I need. Feels good to be atheist and have a clear head.

Are you religious? , If so why? if not why?
If you are unsure which side do you lean towards? if neither think about it.

I personally cannot believe in anything with 100% confidence to be true based on "faith", the closest I get to this is a belief that my memories are true, and even this I would say is somewhere under 100%, which is why I cringe whenever I hear someone say I am 100% confident in the existence of a none prove-able being of unlimited power who is male and the only one of his kind and has been so since all eternal and therefore his gender is in the end pointless other than a representation of male supremacy.

Whether or not you think religion is a good or bad thing is completely different to what you think is true or false, but you may discuss this if need be.

Your boss has substituted one religion for another. If the discussions where she accuses you of being closed-minded are just discussions, fine. Something I have been thinking of lately is quantifying pascals wager. Intrinsically the existence of a diety(s) seems to be less than 50% so that saying, "god probably does'nt exist" seems to be an accurate statement.. but how would you go about a proof for this? I don't know much about probabilities but I was thinking that if we say there is no evidence for or against god then the probabilty of it existing is 50/50 but of course there are basically as many gods as people can imagine so as time goes on the individual probability of a religions version of a diety approaches zero while the probability of no god(s) existing stays at 50% so 50 is greater than any of the probabilities for the countless gods existing so god probably does'nt exist right?

I don't get why athiests give religeous people such a hard time because tbh there are very few differences between religeon and science, both have "answers" that may or may not be true, the only difference is that religeons stuck to their guns while science keeps changing it's mind when they find the next possible answer

True agnosticism regarding religion is a belief. Not a troll, just hear me out.

When an idea (like a religious belief) is highly complex but completly unevidenced even from the base level we recognise that it is very unlikely.

We do not act as if we are utterly unsure of any other very unlikely possible situations. You (probably) dont carry a weapon with you at all time incase of zombies.

So the natual belief state is agnostic atheist (not believing in something before it can be seen to exist or appears likely)

tl;dr True agnosticism is saying "There either is or isnt a god so its 50/50"

Can we not just start a religion board?
