Has anyone been bad at math (proofs) and made so many mistakes that you eventually got calibrated and got good by sheer practice?

I found this to be the case with me. I made so many mistakes that I am now no longer making these mistakes and my ability to understand abstract thought is becoming cleaner. Proofs and ideas that used to be unreachable to me now seem trivial, despite weeks worth of effort to understand them. This has freed up my mind to think about deeper math and continue down the failtrain to deep success. Curious if anyone else experienced this?

This approach is leading me to become better than my classmates.

What would it be like to have an IQ 150+ if ,
>you come from a low-income family?
>went to a high school that suppressed you from learning calculus until 1st year of college
>if none of your family members attended college
>dad said he'd beat your mother fucking ass if you didn't get a job after graduating from college
>didn't go to a prestigious undergraduate school
>had to work in a coal mine during the summers or other odd jobs
>none of your friends are intelelctuals
>born in the deep south
>dad beats the fuck out of your mom and says he'll beat the fuck out of you too

How can such a person compete when other 150+ IQ people enter college at 16 and have PhDs by their early 20s?

If this person broke free at 30 years old and went to graduate school how much time would it take them to catch up?
