No. IQ is incredibly predictive, into the top 1%.

>It is clear by the level and pattern of relationships revealed in Figs.1 and 2 that individual differences in cognitive abilities among young adolescents within the top1% of ability matter in important ways later in life. The likelihood of exceptional achievement is markedly enhanced as a function of general ability. There does not appear to be an ‘‘ability threshold’’ (i.e., a point at which, say, beyond an IQ of 115 or 120, more ability does not matter). Although other things like ambition and opportunity clearly matter, more ability is better. The data also suggest the importance of going beyond general ability level when characterizing exceptional phenotypes, because specific abilities add nuance to predictions across different domains of talent development. Differential ability pattern,in this case verbal relative to mathematical ability and viceversa, are differentially related to accomplishments that draw on different intellectual strengths. Exceptional cognitive abilities do appear to be involved in creative expression, or ‘‘abstract noegenesis’’ (Spearman and Jones,1950). That these abilities are readily detectable at age 12 is especially noteworthy.

Obviously if you take a random joe off the street based on his IQ, and stick him as CEO of company with no experience he'll probably do badly. But I bet if you did this randomly thousands of times you would find the higher the IQ the more successful that company would be. So when making a decision on something that you have limited information for, such as a new employee, having his IQ is definitely useful.

Having a high IQ is exponentially beneficial in getting a patent.

IQ is also great for predicting the probability of inventing something.
