Omnivores are actually an extremely distinct creature in an ecosystem. In a mathematical model of the dynamics of an ecosystem via a food web, a stable state typically tolerates only one omnivore niche.

In other words, unlike carnivores and herbivores which each are able to find good niches and tolerate other species who find other niches, omnivores tend not to tolerate other generalists, and one species comes to dominate in an ecosystem.
