it feels like the last 40 or so years has seen stagnation across the board. Space, nuclear, theoretical physics, and so on. As soon as the boomers got their hands a system it went straight to shit. We're finally getting some gen x leaders like Elon who are pushing back, but some of these institutions have been boomer'd straight into the ground and probably can't recover. At least not for a long while.

it is deeply ironic that solar and wind have turned out to have big problems butchering wildlife. But from the start they were never a good idea because they take up enormous amounts of space which == massive habitat loss. It's far better to have a small nuclear facility in the middle of a forest than to destroy the forest habitat for a "renewable" energy source that kills everything flying near it. Not to mention waste from used-up batteries, solar panels, and so on.

I feel that these people believe that because they mean well that whatever they do will work out. That's obviously fucking wrong. The laws that govern reality only care what you do, not what you think/feel. If you give the "wrong answer" to a problem it's going to blow up in your face regardless of intent.

Oh, but making use of unused space with solar is a great idea. Solar tiles? Sign me up. Takes care of most of the downsides of a massive dedicated farm
