Why are there animals that live seemingly infinitely long lives, and why are animals that die fast relatively higher in evolutionary terms?

Why would natural selection prioritize life forms that die faster?

Esteemed 4Chancelors! I require your help: For my work, I must regress an equation of the form a(x+b)^(1/3) + c(x+d) + e = y from a set of data points yet I cannot find a program capable of such a task. How might I do this? (excell doesnt work and I have no programming experience)
