No evidence to say yes or no, so maybe.
But I believe yes, with the number of stars and planets out there. It's awesome to entertain fictional realism.

Could dark energy be the elasticity of space? The expansion of the universe would continue until space reached its equilibrium point, decelerate, collapse back in on itself, and then start expanding again.

Would the "Big Crunch" that followed reverse entropy? I see no reason why a subsequent expansion wouldn't bring about a universe much like the previous, but wouldn't that be a reduction in entropy?

Are there any hard numbers on the size of the universe over the course of the last 13.7 billion years or are all these images I see (pic related) that imply knowledge of the rate of expansion over time actually guesstimations? If there are hard numbers then one could do a fit to see if Hooke's Law is in any way applicable and perhaps even determine when the universe should begin decelerating.
