Alright, assuming you are serious, will give some advice.

Yes, take a legitimate undergrad degree such as biochemistry. Classes such as molecular biology are most relevant to you, learn everything you can in them. Bio major would be fine too, BUT you need a strong background in chemistry.

2. Do fucking research. Get involved in a lab as soon as humanly possible, i.e. summer after freshman year. Any lab experience is good, but find one that suits your interest for your personal growth. This is the most important thing in your undergrad career, assuming you have a decent GPA. Just email professors, explain your interest, and ask to work in their lab - for free if need be, though you should be able to get a grant from school at least to cover expenses.

3. You will NOT need or want to get an MD for researching genetic engineering. You want to get a PhD. The most important thing in getting accepted into a PhD program is research experience, see step 2.
