This is a good question, which no one knows the answer to.

But, if you think of our position in the galaxy, the whole galaxy could be freaking star wars (tons of aliens), and we would never know it.

We are kinda out towards then end of the galaxy which is relativly low density. As you get closer into the galaxy it gets more dense, more suns, planets and more chances that life occurs and is in communitcation with each other.

I think this is a good thing. You never know aliens could be assholes, and its better we are isolated (gives us time to develope and prepare, as opposed to just being thrown out into a big space opera we are not ready for)
