Would it be easier to dig some trenches on the moon and bury trailer-size compartments that can be made airtight, as oppose to trying to build surface cities there?
having a few feet of lunar soil over your head could come in handy during radiation storms, and could provide added protection against unforeseen things like micrometeorites.

only slightly related, any hard data on the so called 'lost cosmonaut' missions? I've listened to the apparent recording of a female cosmonaut who burned up on re-entry and wasn't reported as having launched.
(observers apparently witnessed a burning object, USSR announced it was a satalite they hadn't mentioned launching.)
