I didn't know which board to post this in, but considering psychology is a science, albeit a social one, this will do. I'm wondering if you'd be able to diagnose me, since I don't know what specific disorder I have or how severe it is. Basically whenever I hear people talking, including people on the street, I know there is the possibility that they could be talking about me negatively and I have this urge to find out if they are, and if so, what they are saying. Now this is pretty easy with family, awkward but doable with friends, but as you can imagine not really possible with strangers. So what happens is I just assume that they're talking bad about me while acknowledging the probability that they're not. This causes me tremendous anxiety in public and in social situations since I tend to avoid situations where I can't hear everything people are saying clearly, since I automatically attribute muffled speaking to negative comments about myself and end up thinking the whole world hates me and is disgusted by me. If anyone could tell me what my problem is and how I could help myself get through it I'd be thankful.

I have seen therapists, psychologists, gp's and psychiatrists for a few years.

A psychiatrist ordered a CAT scan and he told me that it was normal.

In the past I was prescribed anti-psychotics (discontinued, because I said they weren't helping - but I told him before I have such little interoceptive ability I have no idea really maybe they did help) and have been diagnosed with mixed anxiety and depression.

I am currently diagnosed with general anxiety disorder and I am being investigated for bipolar.

When I looked up whether CT scans show abnormalities to reflect the above mental conditions, I saw research papers indicating yes.

When my CT scan shows that I am normal, I ask, then, why do I continue to be attributed psychiatric diagnosises?

Immediately I thought 'it's all in my head', to explain it, then I realised that if it is all in my head then that itself is anxiety, a psychiatric diagnosis. Which, then should have a neurological correlate. But it didn't.

I am so confused. I came in to see a doctor first because my memory is poor and don't know what exactly is:

a) objectively happening in the external world
b) what I am thinking
c) what others are thinking about me

Please help me /sci/

Thank you

I saw a psychiatrist.

He prescribed a low dose of the atypical anti-psychotic zyprexa (Olazapine).

He asked me to start taking and asked me to call the local public hospital to arrange for a CAT scan. I assume that the CAT scan is to check for organic disturbances associated with my symptoms.

I am bugged by a niggling suspicion that the drugs will change my brain and perhaps cause a difference in the CAT scan results which would impair the discriminant meaningfulness of my results.

Can you substantiate or invalidate my suspicions please?

EE graduate here looking to get some help on a few DSP related topics.

Getting help on problems becomes 100x harder when you're not surrounded by profs who are willing to help you out.

Are there any EE students who'd be interested in making a few bucks by relaying some questions to their local profs?

It'll be decent money. Let me know: stephenchatman@gmail.com

|Not sure if anyone can help me out with this, but here it goes:

I'm pretty new to PID stuff, but I'm having a ridiculously hard time understanding why my PLC behaves like this. The definition of the PID function block I'm using says that it uses an incremental algorithm. That's great, I'm totally comfortable with that. My problem seems to be though, there is never any proportional action from the start.

Here's what I mean by that. The documentation for this blocks says that PropComponent= kp*(change in error). So lets say I have a setpoint of 100 and a PV of 0. If I run that PLC - with a Kp=1 and say Ki >0, I should end up with an output of 100 right off that bat. But what actually happens is, my output starts from 0, and as I increase my PV, my output decreases (like should happen with an incremental controller).

Can anyone explain why this happens? All through university I was taught that if I have an error of 100, my controller output should have a proportional component of 100*Kp; but with this block (and another one I've seen as well), I actually only take away from my output as I decrease my error.

Basically, my PID doesn't seem to operate like any control systems "textbook" would suggest. Any help to a PID noob? I'd be forever grateful if someone could get me out of this rut!

Hello, anons. Considering this is /sci/, I would assume that threads on here include any sort of intellectual discussions. So tell me, anons. Is there a neutral emotion? If I were to ask you what emotion you were feeling at the moment, and there was nothing in particular making you angry/upset/happy/etc, you would probably say happy because there was nothing exactly excitable on your mind, correct? But there was no particular emotion you were feeling, yes? So I guess what I'm trying to ask is, "Is there an emotion where you feel no emotion?" (Pic unrelated)

How does VBA work? When I say Worksheets("test1").Range("A1").Value

Is the .Range("A1") returning the range object at "A1" and then you're modifying that directly? I've never seen a function be able to modify properties of the object it's returning directly from the function call.

Is this correct?

Hello guys I need your help. Here's a task I need to do for PHYSICS:

With microcops we're watching Paramaecium caudatum, it's LENGHT is 250 MICROmeters. focal length of ocular is 14 mm, lenght between ocular and objective lens is 173 mm. What's the lenght between paramecium and objective? What's enlargement/magnification of microscope? How "big" (as in height I assume) is picture of paramecium that is the cause of OBJECTIVE lens? What's the angle under which we're looking at the picture?

I already fail at the first question, I insert the equation 1/f = 1/a + 1/b where I'm looking for a, f is 40 and b should be 159...

Please help me! Thanks!

Me and my friend had a discussion.
If man A place out a landmine and later man B steps on it and dies.

Who is responsible for the death of man B?

1) Man A for placing the mine
2) Man B for stepping on it.
3) Both men
4) other

I think it is 3 because
If A had not planted B would survive
If B had not stepped there B would survive
But when A place and B step B gonna die.

My friend think it is 1 the whole guilt lies on A.

Types Of Engineering

Can we get a thread going about which type of engineering you went into and why?

I went to Chemical Engineering and am realizing I have no interest in Chemistry, I've always felt like Mechanical Engineering was the most interesting can someone tell me if that's true or did i choose the right path?

How do you guys pick up on nuances and underlying concepts in math? I have trouble doing that and often I just plug in formulas. I know that all the measures of the angles in a triangle equal 180 degrees but why? I know the formula for permutations but I don't understand how that formula was derived.
