What kind of causality were people drawing from the Flynn effect?

We live in a modern society that punishes intellect/achievement and rewards mediocrity/idiocy. The stupid and dependent are dragged along and compensated for every one of their little shithead spawn.

Logically speaking, why did some of you actually think we were going to improve genetically over time? We're headed for a slow burn until we have to scrap the modern societal model altogether because there are far too many stupid fucks overburdening welfare and infrastructure.
