As, far as infomation.
There are many different groups with differnt dectectors

ATLAS = General physics
CMS = General physics
ALICE = Quark-Gluon
LHcb = Charge parity violations
....
etc

Each group has a different machine, at a differnt part of the tunnel. Each group is responsible for collecting there own data, anaylsis, etc.

Each machine is made up of tons of different types of dectors that have very specific jobs.
