So apparently FH can do more than 8 tons. Probably something around 12. What exactly is stopping SpaceX from, say, launching a 25 - 30 ton payload to LEO and then subsequently launching second stages that are modified to hold end to end like a train of boosters (other than cost, obviously)? If done right before a Mars transfer window it could probably get a larger mass to Mars, with each set of added stages expending and detaching when they run out of propellant
