How do Noble Prize winners come up with new ideas that will be proven right again and again?

Nobel prize announcements are this week, get in here for discussion about them.

>all times are "at the earliest"
PHYSIOLOGY OR MEDICINE – Monday 5 October, 11:30 CEST

PHYSICS – Tuesday 6 October, 11:45 CEST

CHEMISTRY – Wednesday 7 October, 11:45 CEST

I'm in physics and I have no fucking idea whatsoever who is going to win. Thankfully since it was a shitty exoplanet prize last year it'll probably be unrelated to astronomy.
>stop promoting this dumb prize!!! science isn't just one big thing each year!!!!!
Who cares it's fun

This year there hasn't been a single Nobel awarded to Jews, at all.
And they've been declining in physics as well as other Stem fields.

Could this mean they're losing their media and overall influence over people?

Prize but I cannot nominate myself, who should I send it to, I am a complete layman please help me. I guess what I'm asking is how do I publish it, I don't know who to get it published by or how

Sup /sci/,

I have read a story a while ago on a guy (and possibly a friend/spouse). Their department was getting ready for Christmas holiday and labs became more and more deserted. However, when said people heard about some interesting experimental results, they abandoned their holiday plans, rushed back to the lab, documented the outcome, wrote a paper and subsequently won a Nobel prize. Problem is: I cannot recall neither the topic nor these people. Might have been on the field of particle physics but I'm not sure. Question is: who were they? Could you help a /b/ro out? Thanks in advance.

Why do they give the novel prize in physics to a completely theoretical and disprovable theory, it’s almost like they don’t even try

Doesn't it bother you that most coveted award in science is Nobel's dynamite money?

Surely the awards that have far more professional and has more meritocratic judges such as those in scientific communities, established authors etc. should be more considered more prestigious and coveted if the intentions of science truly are as "noble" and "pure" as you say, but of course it's not. Why is not? Because only Nobel's award gives you lots of money.

If your greatest aspirations is to get the scraps of money left behind by dead, successful engineers, then why not study engineering in the first place and start your own company?

ITT we discuss the Nobel Prize.
Why we think it is/isn't a worthwhile award, and, who we think will win the prizes this time around.

To any who don't know, the prize categories are
>Physics
>Chemistry
>Literature
>Peace
>Medicine
>And Economics

tldr: Nobel Prize General. Discuss.

Every year, the Nobel Prize committee recognizes the top scientists whose contributions have stood the test of time and fundamentally altered the state of their field. Based on this fact, I have compiled the following list of hard sciences:

Chemistry
Literature
Peace
Physics
Physiology or Medicine
Economics

Dear Josef @home

It is with great honor that we, in accordance with the established will of Alfred Nobel, hereby award you the Nobel Prize in Physics for your outstanding contributions to the field of teaching retarded /sci/-dwellers some basic mathematics. Congratulations on your momentous achievement.
