it would be unironically better if its ET, because that means FTL is possible too

Had an idea and I wanted to see if it would be a total disaster.
So, one of the ideas that gets floated around for actively correcting carbon levels in the atmosphere is called "Iron Seeding" The principle is that dumping an assload of iron into the ocean will cause an Algae Bloom which acts like a carbon sink. The problem with that is Algae Blooms are bad for fish cause they deplete oxygen in the surrounding water.
So I thought to myself while masturbating one day; "Why don't we just build a few large saltwater lakes in like the Mojave or something and seed them?"
The logistics of moving so much salt water and dirt aside, would something like this work overall, or just marginally? How badly would it fuck up a desert ecosystem (as if anyone gives a fuck about a desert) and the surrounding areas? Could you find a way to turn a profit on this? Biofuel maybe? Food Supplements?
