Pretty accurate depiction is the scene in the beggining of this movie where the operation goes south and the main character eats what he believes is a cyanide pill.

He proved beyond doubt THEN he is debriefed into the operation, not before, not interviews, all you actions are recorded in the military or public records, the CIA can pull that shit up and send orders down without a trace the same.
