I'm tired of being an unemployed NEET, I'm going to study physics, I can't think of anything else I could study, other subjects don't seem as appealing. I won't have the academic record to apply to top universities (in the UK), how does the field of physics work, does it matter if I got to a not very good uni (but study hard), or will I have no chance of a career at all, seeing as it's already so competitive. As somebody from a not very good uni, how would I expect my career in physics to pan out?

I'm filling out my UCAS university application right now, I have no idea what course to apply to (I'll be a mature student, I'm 20 now).

I'm thinking of applying to physics courses, on a whim. I enjoy reading and watching things on physics and maths (popscience only), and I did take a-level physics back when I wanted to be an architect, I just need to retake some exams in June and bob's your uncle I have the qualifications for a physics course. I'm not in school right now and failed my a-levels the last time I did them due to procrastination, in fact even now this bubblechamber image still induces anxiety and stress just looking at it, like there's an exam tomorrow morning and I haven't done any studying for months, like in the old days

I might even take it all the way to post-grad, see how it goes. Better than taking a liberal arts degree

I looked through the list, not really anything that I want to do

Is this a bad idea?

What is the difference, if any, between a hydrogen ion (with one less electron), and a proton?

Hello /sci/. What if and only if there was something before the Big Bang ? I guess there was an another universe, where every star blown up and doused, which formed and left only highest atomic weight chemical elements in the universe. Gravity power pulled all those elements into one place and when there was too much mass in 1 place for gravity to hold, connections between protons and neutrons broke, BIg Bang occured and our helium based universe happened.
What do you think of that idea ?
