It lets me have much more control over how the content will be shown, there are a lot of libraries for specific uses, you can read and edit the source code with any text editor since it doesn't use a stupid proprietary file format (you need to buy Word to read or edit a .doc file, there are things that aren't shown the same way in libreoffice or other similar software), it is free (both as in beer and as in free speech).
