Space isnt a thing, counter-space (negative space) is "down" from all directions. Time seeks lower states of energy which is always towards more gravity, when condensed time stops, the lowest state. Highest state is speed of light, the opposite. Gravity doesnt push up, its always to the center, atoms or black holes.

Water flowing down, not pushing up against space, as its negative area.

Yes, its "trying" to flow you "through" itself (the center, and be inside out) but the strong/weak prevents this. THAT is what pushes back, when you hit it, otherwise the attraction of a lower energy state overrides it. Enough gravity (Neutron Star/Black Hole) is needed to break these forces.
