I would want a bottle of water. I pour a drop into the air. Due to the lack of gravity it would float. If it remains stationary, I'm not moving, otherwise, I am.

Hey /sci/ let's talk education. More specifically educating geniuses, but no need to keep it so on topic. I read an article (http://uk.news.yahoo.com/four-old-girl-genius-joins-mensa-203516582.html)) today about a genius kid several years ahead of her peers. Her father is hoping she can skip a year when she starts school to ensure she does not become bored.

Is it just me or is that idea just bad. The problem isn't the level, it is the speed of progression, even if you threw the kid to like middle/high school she will still eventually become bored after catching up because it will just be much easier for her to grasp the material then her classmates. It would be better to just send her to school normally so she wont get alienated from her peers if the parents are not avaiable to home school her or send her to some somewhere fancy. The normal school should just be supplemented by her parents giving extra excercises etc.

Hey /sci/, let's play a little game! Make a statement, then support it with scientific evidence. I'll start!

>"Money increases happiness in everyday life until about ~$75,000."

>"We found that the ranked position of an individual's income predicts general life satisfaction, whereas absolute income and reference income have no effect."

www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20424085

>"Using cross-sectional data from the United States, two studies found that income was more strongly associated with happiness for individuals paid by the hour compared to their non-hourly counterparts."

www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19801526

>"When plotted against log income, life evaluation rises steadily. Emotional well-being also rises with log income, but there is no further progress beyond an annual income of ~$75,000. Low income exacerbates the emotional pain associated with such misfortunes as divorce, ill health, and being alone. We conclude that high income buys life satisfaction but not happiness, and that low income is associated both with low life evaluation and low emotional well-being."

www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20823223

Your turn.

"Aging

Piracetam appears to reverse the effects of aging in the brains of mice.[27][28]

Piracetam appears to reduce levels of lipofuscin in the rat brain.[29] (Lipofuscin accumulation is a common symptom of aging and alcoholism)."

The scientists in that comic are pretty shitty scientist. They should've had cameras and simply gone off the evidence of the recording(s). Barring that, surely one person must have seen him fall. And if for some ungodly reason no one saw him fall then they would have needed to create a hypothesis that has the most predictive and explanatory power. They would have to gather all available data, i.e. the presence of the guy, the way the papers are now arranged, interviews from people on the floor this guy fell from, and the testimony of the guy himself. So, had they actually carried out science properly, taking into account occam's razor, they would have formed the hypothesis that he did indeed fall, and it would have become a successful theory that would rarely, or possibly never, accrue contradicting evidence.

duh.

This is how I would go about gift finding:

Clearly define objective - Procure the best possible gift for boyfriend

define best - causing the highest qualitative and quantitative response in the pleasure centers of his brain

Restrictions:
-No tickets
-No edible things
-No clothing
-No overly romantic things
-Budget of $50
-Must receive before valentine's
-Mustn't be illegal (I'm guessing)

Now write an algorithm to search online shops and create a number that shows how many of those requirements it meets. The one with the highest number is the one you purchase.
