I am actually surprised they
1) built the orbital tank farm so fucking close to the launch pad, AND on the same side as the OLM
2) Don't have a shield protecting the tank farm from maybe small debris
3) Don't have a deflection hole for the exhaust

Those tanks iirc were very expensive and took forever to build and hook up, but what do I know?

The first real mission to Mars, even the first landing attempt, will have a livestreamed Tesla vehicle reveal that would drive around for a few hours and get stuck in the dunes. They wouldn't waste that opportunity with all eyes watching. >>14652005 is a good answer but boring. I propose:
> simple steel + aluminum frame box, 8x8, cameras all over, 10T hardened, thermal controlled battery pack in a 35T vehicle and 10T towable, deployable solar array and more power
>30T+ of battery storage, whatever else is left for additional solar farm
>electric dirt scoop/power hammer thing, ground core drill, large boom arms
>set up solar power farm, leave to explore
It would probably just be a workhorse to set up other shit. Had a dream a while back about something like this, and it dug a hole and found coal.
