Bit of a Poe's Law situation there, yeah.

Could be either or, but I'd lean on it being an actual Christian. I get that vibe.

Up until now, I've bought all my textbooks because I'm an idiot like that, but I'd love to spend that money on more useful endeavors, so I was wondering; where does /sci/ download their textbooks?

tl:dr; academic piracy thread

5 - You are willing to spend your life looking for little loopholes in the scientifically established age of Earth (few billion years), but you find nothing wrong with believing dates recorded by Bronze Age tribesmen sitting in their tents and guessing that Earth is a few generations old.

4 - You believe that the entire population of this planet with the exception of those who share your beliefs -- though excluding those in all rival sects - will spend Eternity in an infinite Hell of Suffering. And yet consider your religion the most "tolerant" and "loving."

3 - While modern science, history, geology, biology, and physics have failed to convince you otherwise, some idiot rolling around on the floor speaking in "tongues" may be all the evidence you need to "prove" Christianity.

2 - You define 0.01% as a "high success rate" when it comes to answered prayers. You consider that to be evidence that prayer works. And you think that the remaining 99.99% FAILURE was simply the will of God.

1 - You actually know a lot less than many atheists and agnostics do about the Bible, Christianity, and church history - but still call yourself a Christian.

>This is an actual error in reasoning

How isn't that exactly like religion?

Belief in imaginary friends, is not only a huge logical fail, but a mental illness.

Let's just assume for a second that everything in the bible is 100% accurate. That would mean that science is wrong.

I just disproved science, bitches.

OK /sci/, I'm an above average student, predicted to get all A*'s in my GCSE's and I'm absolutely fascinated by science. I took my maths a year early (got an A*) so that i could do additional maths as well, which i am to do tomorrow and am pretty confident I'll do well in.

I had always wanted to do the 3 sciences and maths to A level, but now I have found out that I could also do religion as a fifth subject (there's room in my timetable for 5).

I'm an atheist, and i think that religion would be an interesting thing to study, the course includes the place of religion, secular humanism etc in and their impacts on morality, arguments for the existence of god, and Freud and Marx's works on such subjects. (Also one course on the early christian church and the difficulties it faced in spreading its word, Acts etc in the NT).

So, i was wondering, would it be too much to do the 4 sciences (incl. maths) as well as Religious Studies?

Would the work be too much to cope with?

I've read the Bible, and some of Freud and Marx's work, am confident i could defend my stance on the ethical/moral questions well, and am yet to come across any argument for the existence of a deity that has stood up to even basic scrutiny.
