There's no reason to expect Andromeda to be any weirder or to have any particular theme that's different from the Milky Way. We should try to explore and understand our own galaxy, which we've barely done at all, before making the leap to others.
There's no good, plausible sounding reason for us or any civilization to ever travel from one galaxy to another (unless we discover a wormhole or other essentially magic shit); it would be a massive expenditure of energy and time just to reach more of the same stars as where you came from.

Most physicists and astronomers consider a heat death of the universe scenario to be much more likely than a Big Crunch.
The expansion of the universe is accelerating, not being slowed by gravity or anything else.
