thats not what he observed, the difference between geocentrism and heliocentrism is just a coordinate shift. you'd know about coordinate shifts if you'd ever studied astronomy or physics or math

false. what "orbits" what is just a matter of the coordinate systems you choose. gravity is a free floating chaotic systems of unbound objects, not an orrery, "orbits" don't exist

>The catholic church tried to kill scientific progress
Galileo's entire career was funded exclusively by the church. So was Copernicus's. Galileo was only prosecuted because he was too much of a sperg to wait for higher powers in the church to review his findings before proclaiming them the one and only truth.
And as it turned out Galileo was completely wrong about his assertions with respect to where "the center of the universe" is. Geocentrism and heliocentrism are just the same phenomenon explained via two different coordinate systems

Thats a fairly decent rundown, but it leaves out Galileo having made himself an enemy of the Jesuits before the start of the events and that his "house arrest" was at his palatial estate and that he was so oppressed that he allowed to leave his house and travel during the course of his "house arrest"
Its also worth noting that geocentrism and heliocentrism are just coordinate systems which both say the same thing

Only the jesuits were in favor of prosecuting Galileo, pope Barberini was a patron of Galileo's and was partially responsible for Galileo's successful career, but was ultimately less influential than the jesuits.
Galileo was never imprisoned, he was placed under house arrest and only because he refused to concede that there was the possibility that he was wrong, (which turned out to be that case when Newton showed that the solar system has no fixed center, subsequent revelations in the field discovered that heliocentrism and geocentrism are both just different coordinate system and neither are any more right or wrong than the other [see gif], contemporary astronomers do nearly all of their sky mapping in geocentric coordinate systems because their telescopes are here on earth rather than viewing the universe from the solar system's center of mass). If Galileo had been willing to teach both his own theories and the church's traditional teachings then he never would have been put on trial.
Atheists are constantly bringing up and mischaracterizing the Galileo episode in order to justify their amoral and unethical convictionless lifestyles, which is a par for the course with atheists, since they're all liars. Only Christians believe that lying is a sin that should never under any circumstance by committed, atheists are happy to lie, mislead, feign ignorance or engage in any other dishonest behavior when they feel it suits their immediate needs, just like children who are too young to have learned right from wrong

>Galileo wasn't tried for Heresy
correct, he wasn't
he was out on trial for insubordination, not heresy.
he was given permission to teach his pupils heliocentrism so long as he promised to also teach the traditional beliefs and he violated that promise, so he was rightfully convicted. all of this is attested to in the trial documents which are available via the vatican observatory.
the militant atheists ignore the facts of history and try to turn the incident into propaganda for atheism.
just goes to show you how untrustworthy atheists are, which is why they can't do science. francis bacon was formalizing the scientific method around the same time galileo was on trial.
geocentrism and heliocentrism are just coordinate changes of the same system anyway, they only reason people get bent out of shape about it is because of the false tale thats told about galileo supposed persecution. if you're on earth and you want to look at jupiter's moons then you're going to make a geocentric calculation to predict where and when to look, if you're standing on the surface of the sun then heliocentric is the way to go, they both add up to the same thing.

> the false theory of geocentrism.
geocentrism and heliocentrism are just coordinate changes of the same phenomenon. the people who chimp out over geocentrism are all lame brain who were fed the stupid, fake story about galileo by a public school teacher/atheist propagandist.
if you are actually doing real astronomy from an earth based telescope, especially solar system astronomy, or if you are launching interplanetary rockets, then you are going to be using a geocentric coordinate system to do your work in because that makes life simpler for you in that case. furthermore, galileo was rightly convicted of insubordination, the trail documents are available via the vatican observatory if you wish to read them and if you can read latin.

more than only reference frame exists, more than one coordinate system exists.
this argument only affects people who can do coordinate shifts on their own.
if you're on /sci/ and you're one of those people, get out, you don't belong here.

geocentrism and heliocentricism are identical ideas in different coordinate systems. both are false ideas, orbital foci are fixed at centers of gravity, not centers of objects.

heliocentrism and geocentrism and all the other versions are no more right or wrong than any others. they are all they same system, its just a matter of coordinate transformations to switch from one to the other.
makes no difference where you put the origin point. plutocentrism arrives at the same conclusions as mercurycentrism. they all put the various objects at the same relative positions.
arguing one vs the other is pointless.

>What is the definitive proof there is gravity?
>The “proof” of gravity is the demonstration that the phenomenon happens.
>There is no way to absolutely rule out the idea that gravity is caused by invisible, insubstantial pixies that have an obsession with everything having to be as close together as possible.

Given the lack of a universal reference point, it's not exactly true that anything goes around anything else -- you can plot out the universe as though any point in it were stationary and everything else was moving in reference to it. But when you adopt the heliocentric model, the number of equations you have to do in order to make sense of things drops by an enormous amount, to the point where it's hard to imagine why anyone wouldn't want to default to this model.

Why do people believe in nonsense that can't be proven other than through wishful thinking?
