An animal’s potential for suffering should be determined based on brain size. If I took neurons from major nociceptive centers in the brain, grew a small network of them in a Petri dish and stimulated them, I could theoretically quantify this petri dish’s level of suffering. I could also approximate that to an animal based on the number of connections it has in certain areas. Am I wrong?
