>What calculator do you guys use for college algebra through Calculus III and Physics courses?
I had a TI-85 (graphing calculator) that I used for those classes back in the day. In hindsight, that was a waste of money. I bought a TI-30xa around 1998 and haven't looked back. It certainly isn't the only good calculator out there but I have been very happy with it.

Graphing Calculators are such a ripoff. I know that some schools/classes/tests require them. It is so silly how the price of those things have basically stayed the same over the past 20 years.

True about the screen, true about the functionality.

(alt text unrelated: "College Board issues aside, I have fond memories of TI-BASIC, writing in it a 3D graphing engine and a stock market analyzer. With enough patience, I could make anything ... but friends. (Although with my chatterbot experiments, I certainly tried.)")

aren't the only pros of calculators their low power consumption?

a student has to do a few calculations.
if he needs more he/she probably will have to do them on a computer.

so why do students still buy these shitty calculators?

TI-89 is a step up. But both of those are ancient. But then again, so are ALL calculators.

It's pretty unlikely that you need all the functionality of that for a stats class. Find a $20 stats calculator, write down the advanced stuff it has, and ask the professor if it will suffice. TIs are a total ripoff.
