Shit they could just do something like SMART and save an incredible amount of money on the rocket. RS series engines make up a frankly obscene portion of SLS' cost.

What do you guys think about the Smart Resuse system on the Vulcan?

I think it's a neat idea and that it can definitely work. While it may prove to not be as cheap in the long run compared to flying back the booster, things could turn out to be the opposite and it would've been good to have multiple ways of reusing rocket parts available. Plus it seems simpler to implement than flyback boosters.

>when your engineers don't want to admit that SpaceX got it right and your engines can't throttle low enough so you waste years and millions on a silly system to appease managers, and end up never using it anyways since Bezos, Elon, and the Chinese eat you alive

poor, poor ULA
