Why do people pronounce conic sections as "khanic sections"?

Would it be possible to create a machine that is both washer AND dryer?

They're both based on cylindrical designs so you could place the clothes in the top-oriented washer bucket, then when the washing cycle is over, the tumbler collapses and the cylinder rotates frontwise on a rounded track (assuming the dryer form) and then does the dryer thing, returning back to its original position when it's done.

I'm sure there's something wildly dangerous about static electricity and pumping water but whatever I'll leave the details to the advanced scientists.

So someone explain why my idea is impossible or recommend another board to post my bullshit.

Get out.

Also, Thorium is the only right answer.

In my opinion, the existence of life is a highly overrated phenomenon.

The amount of energy required to mess with space time (I'm sure there's a name for it) is 10 trillion times the energy output that we can harness currently.

Is anyone else happy that we can quantify the amount of energy necessary to fold space time and that while we are nowhere close to that number, it's also nowhere near an infinite amount of energy required?

EG I feel like it's something we can accomplish eventually and this is really cool.

Can someone give me more information on the amount of energy necessary to fuck with space itself, what one unit of this amount of energy would be called/is called, and examples of cosmic objects that produce this amount of energy in a reasonable amount of time?

Do some stars produce the necessary levels of energy to warp space itself (eg being able to fold space so that you can get somewhere faster than light, also correct me if that would still be impossible).

Anyway to me this stuff seems really amazing and eventually possible because it's a finite amount and I actually expected it to be a lot more than only several trillion times our current output.

Including false things.

If you try and eliminate the scientific with mathematics you immediately become a religiot.

What's something poignant Dr. Manhattan said while he was on Mars?

Hey, you guys want to do something other than answer homework questions for a few minutes? I was just wondering what your stances are on the subject of free will and determinism. I have, for a long time without knowing exactly what it was called, followed the belief of compatibilism: that free will and determinism can coexist. First of all, determinism always made sense to me: if the entire universe is governed by fundamental laws, which are not random, but predictable, then any past state determines any future state. If you take a snapshot of the universe, knowing the positions, speeds, and forces acting upon every particle in existence, there is only ONE possible outcome at any future time (with the term "time" used loosely).

But then, does that mean that everything in my life, down to insignificant thoughts, has been determined from the state of the universe billions of years ago? I would say yes. Even as I type this, I believe there is only one possible post I could produce in the end. But I also believe I am choosing what to say. There's no way to get around the fact that we make choices; predetermined choices, but choices nontheless. My actions are the results of predetermined processes that occur in my mind, and because my consciousness resides in my mind, I have free will. Put simply, I am free to do what I want, but what I want (and therefore, what I do) is predetermined.

Man, this makes my head hurt sometimes. Anyway, I have the picture of Dr. Manhattan because I just read Watchmen for the first time recently, and he brought up some interesting thoughts about free will.

So, do we or do we not have free will? Are all events determined, or not? I would actually be interested to know, do you think there are any tiny events that cannot be determined? Most importantly, am I just crazy?
