OP here, thanks for this excellent response. I'm just beginning my studies in both Category theory and programming by way of Haskell.

Keep this thread alive as I'm sure I'll want to ask you some basic questions; your response is a bit more advanced than where I've gotten in my studies. But it is highly fruitful and has terms in it I've seen mentioned in later chapters of my book (e.g. functor, natural transformation, monads, Yoneda lemma, hom, etc).

But I am pushing through the next chapter in my book tonight in addition to reading a blog that is advancing through the material at a quicker pace.

I'm very excited to have someone as mathematically equipped as you are on this board.
