But very little of the presentation of Mathematics is western-centric. Occasionally, some historical context might be added by the prof saying something like "Newton and Libiniz both derived calculus around the same time", but if any significant portion of the class is devoted to the historical context of the maths, its a shit class.

True, but anyone who cannot detatch their outside life from representation in mathematics may not really be a good mathematician. Any devout christian, for example, should still be able to work on a Cartesian plane even through culturally he could see a cross as being a religious icon.If he was truly discouraged from pursuing a career in maths because one of the shapes looked like something culturally significant, I don't think he would be cut out for maths, seeing as much of it requires at least partial abstraction.
