Is there any good notation for referring to the columns/rows of a matrix? I've seen A_i^j but that is bad because it gets confused with matrix iteration, and may make double indexing unclear. Placing the i and j on the other side now means that we get the same problem whenever we multiply by anything from the left. Adding in a line separator looks ugly. Only real solution I found is placing the i and j directly below and above the matrix, respectively.

I'm several years into my math education and I've learned nothing, or at least very little. When my classmates refer to theorems and results of earlier courses I have no idea what they're talking about.

That is my point, yes. I should be clear however, that when I say "completeness" I mean it in the sense of there being no gaps in the reals. The argument does seem circular to me. E.g. the IVT over [math]\mathbb{Q}[/math] doesn't hold, because [math]\mathbb{Q}[/math]
has gaps. But we do not yet know if [math]\mathbb{R}[/math] has gaps, since we don't know if [math]2^{1/2}[/math] is part of [math]\mathbb{R}[/math] or not yet.

How is it gibberish? You're inducing an order relation on an object of which you have no information. You cannot say that [math]1 < 2^{1/2}[/math] without presupposing that [math]2^{1/2}[/math] is real.

How is it too complicated? It's literally high school math.

Does evolution favor intelligence?
I’m in an astronomy class and the main topics are about searching for life in the universe. I don’t believe evolution, on any level, favors intelligence. Had the Dino’s not been wiped out, they would still be dominating the planet. Sharks have been around 400 million years dominating the oceans as an apex predator and they’re still not any bit smarter than in the past. There’s no way under natural circumstances that intelligent life can form without some odd thing happening. Humans, coming from apes, somehow broke the pattern of hundreds of millions of years of evolution.
Does anyone have a counter point to this?

How do you guys find time to do other shit? Like I used to do math as a hobby, but also enjoyed reading, especially the classics. Now however once I've started studying it in a relatively good uni, my time is gone. It's not too bad, about 40 hrs a week is the expected study time, but this leaves basically just the weekend. I'm afraid I'll burn out if I force myself to study other stuff "for fun" in my free time.
